APOLLO (Apollon)

OPINION

 

In our opinion, we believe that Apollo was a very competitive god. He wanted to win
everything, and he wanted to be the best. Sometimes, Apollo's competitive spirit hurt
others. For example, when his sister, his archery partner, lost his focus. If she loses her focus, it would lead to losing. This is because, they are a team for archery. So, when he found out that Artemis' crush was causing her to lose focus, he had to kill him.  Even though his competitive spirit caused many negative things, it also caused positive things. For example,  when he killed the Python. When he realized that the python was harassing his mother, he knew that it was bothering his mother. So, he went to fight the python, which no one ever did before. It was very risky, but he did it for the village and his mother. This shows that he is a risk taker, and a very competitive person. Another thing that shows he is competitive, is when he won to be the God of Music. He tried something he never tried before. Which is to play the lyre upside down. Because the god who was playing against him was tied with his score. And, he knew that the other person can't play upside down because his instrument was the flute. This also proves that he was smart.

 

CONNECTIONS TO TODAY

 

Even though Apollo was born a long time ago, there are still connections we could make to today, and to our lives. For example, the lyre, competitions, war, sun, music, poetry, oracle, lights, healing, and medicine. Lyres are a type of musical instrument and it looks like the harp. Now, there are less people who play this instrument but some people become professional players like Apollo was. Another connnection is that we still compete in a lot of thing. Back then, there were all types of competiton. This is because they thought that everyone should represent something different. For example, Marsyas and Apollo both wanted to be the god of Music. So, they competed against each other and when Apollo won, Marsyas had to take a harsh punishment and was killed. Now, people do not go to the point until killing, but there are still lots of competitions including The Olympics, music contests, fashion competitions, and many others. People participate in competitons and are competitive because they want to know who is the best and they want to win. Even though there are many connections to today, the two most major connections are war and the sun. War is something that has continued from way back, and we think that we will not be able change that. We think that there will always besomebody who is against you and it will turn into big fights. It happens so often and everywhere that it leads to famine, disease, destruction, and death. In the end of the war, sometimes, they can resolve the problem but most times they will not be able to. The sun is a very important thing because we need it in our lives. The sun gives us light, nutrients for the plants, and many other different things. The sun is one of the things that it is necessary in our lives. So, without Apollo, there will be no proper sun, and our lives will be harder to live.
